    Yes. You can write an email to info@jonthebeach.com to apply.
  • Does J On The Beach offer scholarships or free tickets?
    Yes, JOTB is committed to supporting members of underrepresented groups who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend the event for financial, social, or additional reasons.
    Our goal for this year is to provide 5 free tickets, a 50% discount to each of these communities and if necessary will try our best to support their accommodation.

  • Do I need to bring a laptop?
    You won’t need your laptop during the conferences, but it can be a requirement to participate in some workshops. During the conference you can make use of our cloakroom to leave your backpack and laptop there.
  • What is the dress code for the conference?
    JOTB doesn’t have a formal dress code though shirts and shoes are required at all times.
  • Is there a forum or a way to get in contact with the organization and the rest of the attendees of the event?
    We have created a Discord server for J On The Beach that you can freely join to learn about announcements, logistics, the hackathon, workshops, general information and meet other attendees. Registrations

  • Who can I contact for questions relating to payment/invoices?
    You can write to info@jonthebeach.com for any questions and issues related to the payment.
  • Can I pay for tickets by invoice?
    Yes, you can. Just write an email to info@jonthebeach.com with your company’s billing details. The payment shall be sent by bank transfer to JOTB’s account. Once payment is received, we will issue a discount code to redeem your tickets.
  • Do you offer discounts for multiple ticket purchases for teams or groups?
    Yes, we offer discounts for groups of 10 people minimum. Just send an email to info@jonthebeach.com
  • Can I get an invitation letter for a visa application or border control?
    Yes, after purchasing your ticket you can write an email to info@jonthebeach.com with your full name, nationality, date of birth, and passport number as well as the details of the Embassy or Consulate you will apply for a visa.
  • Can I share my J On The Beach 2023 badge with my colleagues?
    No, every badge is unique and personal for every attendee.
  • If I’m unable to attend J On The Beach 2023 in-person, what options do I have?
    Once paid, JOTB23 tickets are non-refundable unless the event is canceled.
    If you can no longer attend JOTB, you can transfer your ticket for the same conference to another person.
    Transfers can be requested for free until Monday, April 10th, 2023. A fee of 40 EUR applies to transfers requested between Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, and Friday, April 28th, 2023. The deadline for transfer requests is Friday, April 28th, 2023.

    Once paid, JOTB23 tickets are non-refundable unless the event is canceled.
    If you can no longer attend JOTB, you can transfer your ticket for the same conference to another person.

Venue

  • Where will J On The Beach be held?
    All the conferences and workshops will take place at FYCMA (Palacio de Ferias y Congresos of Malaga). https://fycma.com/
  • What travel options are there to get to the venue?
    There are various ways to get to FYCMA: bus, taxi, or road. Buses number 4, 19, and 20 of the Malaga Transport Company (EMT) connect FYCMA with the city center.
  • Is there parking available at the venue?
    Yes, FYCMA has large, free parking for attendees who arrive by car.
  • What accessibility options are available at the venue?
    FYCMA guarantees that both its spaces and the development of the activity are accessible to all people with the adoption of the following measures: adapted signage, reserved spaces in rooms and adapted furniture, including elevators for auditorium platforms, 100% accessible toilets, intelligent orientation devices in the building through bluetooth technology for people with visual disabilities.
  • Will there be a cloakroom at the venue?
    Yes, you will find a cloakroom at the conference venue where you can leave your luggage and coat while attending the sessions.

Conference Format & Experience

  • All about workshops
    Workshops take place on the 10th of May. There are 2 workshop categories: Crema & Canela. Only general ticket holders (early bokeron, standard tuna and last callamar) can access Canela Workshops for free using the discount code they get after purchasing the ticket.It is mandatory to register for workshops, even if you bought a general admission ticket for the event. If you have purchased one of these tickets and cannot find the code please contact us immediatelly so we can provide it with it as workshops have limited seats.
  • How big are the halls?
    The conferences will take place in three rooms. Cabetsa Hall has a capacity for 700 people, Freepik Hall for 300, and Saber.tech Hall for 180.
  • Are there limited seating sessions that I need to sign up for?
    If you plan to attend a conference in Freepik Hall or Saber.tech Hall, the two smaller capacity rooms, we recommend being proactive and coming early to find a free seat.
  • What is an Unconfakerence Session?
    Based on the core concepts of unconferences and open spaces, an Unconfakerence is a new disruptive, scalable, fully decentralized, secure, and resilient session.
    While unconferences are supposed to be participant-driven meetings without an agenda or topic to be discussed, in the case of this Unconfakerence there will be a predefined topic about Rust (aka RUST for some C++ programmers) on which different suggestions and subtopics will be raised.
    The organization will be led by Dr. Roland Kuhn with the help of Arno Schots, and Gonzalo G. Jimenez, members of the JOTB organizing committee.
  • How can I take part in the Unconfakerence?
    Anyone interested who has purchased a JOTB ticket will be able to attend the Unconfakerence, which will last four hours and will take place at the open patio of the venue.
  • Is there a call for papers?
    Yes, but it is already closed.
  • What are the timings for J On The Beach?
    J On The Beach will take part from Wednesday, May 10th to Friday, May 12th, 2023.
    Every day the first conference starts at 9:00 a.m. and the last conference finishes at 17:30 p.m.
    Onsite registration is open on May 10th from 8:00 a.m.
  • What social events & network opportunities does JOTB offer?
    JOTB offers a variety of non-conference activities to help you connect with other attendees.
    Wednesday 10th May.
    On the first day at the venue we will be holding workshops from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as a free hackathon event from 8 am to 8 pm to learn about AI/ML, try InterSystems technology and win great prizes.
    On the evening of the 10th of May at 8 p.m. we will hold our Lightning talk challenge which is open to anyone and everyone, regardless of whether you have a conference ticket or not.

    Thursday 11th May
    After a day full of talks we have organised a networking event starting at 8 pm with a quiz and prizes at the city center. Place Le Grand Café Centro.
    Friday 12th May
    Apart from the general talk schedule we have organised an unconference during the morning of the 12th of May from 9.30 a.m. to 13:30. p.m. Only attendees with Early Bird, Standard Tuna, and Last Callamar tickets can access the Unconfakerence. On the evening of the last day of the event we will be closing with a party taking place at Pastrami Club (C/Alamos 36, Málaga) with a few bands performing live music.

Food & Beverage

  • Do you cater to special dietary requirements?
    Yes. We cater to many special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free. If you have any dietary requirements outside of the ones mentioned or any questions, you can contact JOTB at info@jonthebeach.com.
  • Will breakfast, coffee breaks & lunch be provided?
    Yes, JOTB will provide a morning tasting on the 11th and 12th prior to the scheduled start time of the daily sessions. Lunch will also be provided on the same days in a break during sessions as well as coffee. On the workshops days we will only offer self-service coffee inside the rooms and food and drinks will be provided for those attending the Hackathon.

Health & Safety

  • Do I need to be fully COVID vaccinated to attend the conference?
    No, we won’t ask you to be fully COVID vaccinated to attend the conferences as there are no mask or vaccination mandates in Spain, but we encourage the attendees to be cautious and responsible for their health and that of others.
  • Will I need to wear a face mask at the conference?
    No, it’s not mandatory to wear a face mask at the conference or during the event but you can freely wear it.
  • What should I do if I see or experience any inappropriate behavior?
    If you see, experience, or hear about any behavior of concern, we encourage you to report it to any member of the JOTB organization.

At The Conference

  • How do I ask speakers questions?
    All badges will have 3 public URLs printed with a shared Google doc for every hall where you can write your questions that our presenters will formulate at the end of each talk.
  • How can I learn more about the sponsors at J On The Beach?
    You can visit the website of JOTB to find information about every sponsor. Once in the venue, you can access our Sponsor Area, talk to them and learn about their job opportunities.
  • How should I prepare before the event?
    For a better JOTB experience, we recommend you join our Discord server. We also recommend you to read the presentation abstracts and schedule so you can build your own agenda before you arrive.
    We encourage you to keep an eye out for emails from the JOTB team, Ticket Tailor, and our Newsletter so you won’t miss any updates.
  • Will the sessions be recorded and when will they be available?
    All talks will be recorded and published on our Youtube channel a few weeks after the event.
